Lavender essential oil is literally an essential

What do you think of when you hear the word “Lavender”?

The word lavender originally entered our vocabulary as a flower, but is now associated with a unique shade of purple, a gentle scent, an almost magical property that is associated with calming down, and finally, lavender essential oil.

The essential oil comes from the distillation of the lavender’s flower spikes. Pretty cool right?

Aside from being present in its actual name, this particular essential oil has proved itself to be an actual essential in the skincare world.

💜 It’s no secret that lavender is used frequently to reduce stress and anxiety, but less known is that the calming effects also hold true for our skin. It is teeming with anti-inflammatory benefits that make it ideal for soothing and relieving eczema, and dry, irritated, red, or blotchy skin.

💜 Lavender essential oil also has properties that aid in fighting acne. I know what you’re thinking. “Isn’t more oil bad for your pimples?” I understand where you’re coming from but don’t worry. This essential oil is not only naturally anti-inflammatory, but also antibacterial and anti-microbial. All this anti-ness works together to kill acne-causing bacteria and calm down painful breakouts.

💜 It also does wonders as a healing agent for injured or damaged skin. The antiseptic properties in lavender essential oil promote faster healing of the skin tissue while disinfecting the microorganisms that can cause further infections.

💜 This amazing skincare ingredient applies the same healing and relaxation properties to prevent signs of aging. Since lavender essential oil is loaded with antioxidants and phytochemicals, it works directly with the skin to stimulate cell regeneration which helps prevent wrinkles.

With all the nourishing benefits of lavender essential oil, it’s no surprise that a lot of beauty products have a lavender variant. However, we have to keep in mind that using lavender oil as a scent is different from using the essential oil. Using commercial lavender oil for the perfumey and “we want to smell nice and relaxing”  purposes does not necessarily contain the actual benefits of the essential oil.

To avail of all the benefits we’ve mentioned, you better make sure your products are using authentic lavender essential oil.

And the great news is that at Bare Necessities MNL, there are a bunch to choose from!
