Using hair care products that actually care

Once upon a time,

I was constantly at war with the shampoo to conditioner ratio in my shower. This photo was literally the story of my life.

No matter how careful and frugal I tried to be, I always needed to use way more conditioner than shampoo just to get that soft and silky feeling (which, by the way, only lasted temporarily). If there’s anything that the lost battle proved, it’s that a hair care routine is simply not complete without conditioning.

While the existence of shampoo bars has become a game-changer in the world of sustainable beauty products, it’s less common to hear about solving the chemical and plastic problem through conditioner bars.

But they do exist! And the best part? It’s even better than regular liquid conditioner.

Yes, really!

In regular liquid conditioners, 80% of the actual formula inside the bottle is just water. This means that despite all the product we apply on our hair, the actual ingredients that do the work only make up a shy 20%.

Conditioner bars, on the other hand, don’t contain any water. Just one bar of around 115mL is the conditioning equivalent to a 500mL bottle of liquid conditioner. But without all the literal water weight, one bar can last up to 3 times as long as a traditional bottle, making it much more efficient.

This is because conditioner bars are concentrated blocks of all the essential ingredients that are needed to nourish and condition our hair. By default, this excludes the harsh chemicals that are usually present in the usual shampoo and conditioner, such as parabens, silicones, synthetic fragrances, preservatives, SLS, SLES, DEA, and other acronyms for really long chemical names.

Conditioner bars are plant-based and mostly consist of butters and oils that are gentle enough to use on both the hair and scalp. Because of the concentration of natural ingredients and nourishing properties, this removes chemical residue left on our scalp from traditional cleansers and conditioners.

The rich and active ingredients present in conditioner bars ensure that moisture is locked in the individual hair shafts, while simultaneously nourishing and conditioning the scalp without leaving behind any unused excess product.

We can keep talking about how beneficial conditioner bars are but we know that the only way to confirm this is by trying them out for yourself.

Here at Bare Necessities MNL, you can finally end the battle over shampoo to conditioner ratios and just get the best.

At Bare Necessities MNL, all our conditioner bars are sulfate-free, chemical-free, and plant-based. They have been pH-tested to ensure your hair is conditioned, without stripping away the natural oils needed to keep your hair healthy and shiny. We also make sure to use minimal packaging to help the environment against harmful chemical and plastic use.
